In 1963, a group of lacrosse enthusiasts gathered together to seek a permanent way to recognize Canada’s national sport. Because of the Royal City’s historical ties to this game, New Westminster was deemed an ideal and appropriate location for a new Hall of Fame.

With the blessing of City Council, an application was made for a charter and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame was officially opened in 1966. Every year since then, new members have been inducted into the Hall of Fame: box players, field players, builders and teams have been honoured in the Hall.

But the Hall is much more than a repository of names of our greatest participants—it’s also the keeper of our national summer sport’s history. It showcases the tradition of lacrosse from its very roots, with galleries honouring the First Nations who created the game, and exhibits showing the game’s transition into modern life. Other exhibits feature the unique lacrosse stick, box and field games, lacrosse at the Olympic Games and our historic national championship trophies.

Moving to New Westminster’s Anvil Centre has given the Hall of Fame the opportunity to completely revitalize these exhibits in a brand-new setting. The Board of Governors invites the community to visit the Hall of Fame in its premises at the Anvil Centre, and walk down memory lane with the lacrosse greats.
