Curl Mapped

Artist Talk & Opening Reception

In Curl Mapped, artist Rebecca Bair tackles the complex, colonial history of archives to represent that which is absent: traces of Black settlers in this region.

Curl Mapped is presented as part of the annual Capture Photography Festival. The art installation will be on view on the front windows of Anvil Centre until March 1, 2024.

At 5:00 pm on April 27, join us in-person at Anvil Centre (3rd floor) or on Zoom for the artist talk, “Curl Mapped: Contemplating Black representation, documentation and care.” This is an opportunity to engage with the art practice of the artist, Rebecca Bair, and to get insight into the making of the work commissioned for the 2023 edition of Capture Photography Festival. Additionally, Bair will be in conversation with the City of New Westminster archivist Erin Brown-Osterman regarding the nuances of language around the documentation of the plurality of the Black experience within the scope of the history in New Westminster and beyond.

This is a free event. No registration required. Please note the event will be livestreamed and recorded. Zoom link: https://rb.gy/uh9qr

In-person attendees are welcome to stay after the event to mingle and enjoy some light refreshments.
