Join Heritage, New Media Gallery and Arts Services for physically distanced Family Day fun. Piece together a Family Day weekend adventure using the tools, inspiration and activities we provide. New Westminster Museum & Archives is hosting an online Heritage Puzzle Contest, New Media Gallery is creating a Jigsaw Puzzle Video Game and Photographic Treasure Hunt, Spirit of the Children Society is sharing a traditional plains story, “Fire in the Heart”, and all are contributing to the City of New Westminster’s Family Day Activity Kit.

New Westminster Museum & Archives – Heritage Puzzle Contest

Vote to decide New Westminster’s favourite historic photo from a selection of Archives images! Each person who votes gets entered for a chance to win a custom-printed puzzle of the most-voted image. Families who post images of their Family Day weekend activities to social media and tag @NewWestMuseum will receive a second entry into the contest. Full contest details can be found here.

Spirit of the Children Society – Virtual Storytelling

Join Ernie Cardinal from Spirit of the Children Society as he shares the traditional plains story Fire In the Heart. A story of two young braves racing to become chief that shares the importance of community, family, leadership and responsibility. The video will be free to download from New Westminster’s Family Day event page http://www.newwestcity.ca/familyday

City of New Westminster – Family Day Activity Kits (300 kits)

Our Family Day Activity Kits geared towards family fun both indoors and outdoors. There is something for your family in these kits that will bring everyone together. Included are items from a variety of community and City locations that will for sure bring some family fun. This take-home kits include activities, crafts, information for online activities and other Family Day weekend information. All you need at home is scissors, glue and coloring tools. Registration for a pick-up time slot is required, check out the following time slots and availability online.

New Westminster Museum will be contributing one mini-puzzle to each activity kit. Spirit of the Children Society will be contributing one Indigenous colouring book to each activity kit.

New Media Gallery – Photographic Treasure Hunt

Combine the sleuthing skills of the whole family and explore the history of New West even deeper with a photographic treasure hunt. Read clues and comb over every detail of historical photos for hidden web links that will take you to even more photos and clues. Can you make it to the end? The New West Photo Treasure Hunt will be live on February 13th.

New Media Gallery – Jigsaw Puzzle Video Game

New Media Gallery will use the winning photo to create a video game version of the jigsaw puzzle and provide a fun tutorial that teaches you how to program your own video game puzzle using Unity. The Family Day Video Game Puzzle will be hosted on this webpage on February 13, 2021.

Located at the geographical centre of Metro Vancouver in the heart of downtown New Westminster, Anvil Centre is within easy reach of downtown Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and nearby suburbs, YVR and Abbotsford airports and BC Ferries.

By Transit

Anvil Centre is located at 777 Columbia St., and is across the street from the New Westminster SkyTrain station (Eighth St. exit). The New Westminster station is serviced by the SkyTrain Expo and Millennium Lines, and is less than a 30-minute ride from downtown Vancouver.

By Car

New Westminster is connected to Metro Vancouver’s major highways and arteries via three bridges: the Alex Fraser and Queensborough Bridges (connecting Highway 91 and the East-West Connector), the Pattullo Bridge (connecting Surrey’s King George Boulevard) and the Port Mann Bridge (connecting Highway 1). The South Fraser Perimeter Road (Highway 17) also provides a quick, direct route to New Westminster.
By Bike

The scenic 26-km BC Parkway is a multi-use path that roughly parallels the SkyTrain Expo Line, connecting Surrey City Centre, New Westminster, South Burnaby and Vancouver. The BC Parkway passes within a block of Anvil Centre. Bike racks can be found along Columbia St.
Parking

Underground parking
Anvil Centre features three levels of underground parking with 270 stalls. The parkade is accessed off of Eighth Street.

1 hour: $3.25
5 hours: $9.00
10 hours: $15.00

Rates for less than one hour are also available.

Parkade
Parking is also available at two large nearby parkades. Adjacent to Anvil Centre is the Shops at New West multi-level parkade, located at the corner of Eighth Street and Columbia St. The Front Street Parkade, accessed from Fourth and Sixth Streets and just south of Columbia, offers reasonably priced hourly and daily parking rates.

On-street parking
Hourly pay meter parking can be found on the streets in and around Anvil Centre. Please note most meters have time limits.

There is complimentary drop-off/pick-up parking (15min MAX) for all Anvil Centre program on Parking Level 1 (in non-reserved stalls). Please note that complimentarily spaces are not reserved and depend on availability.
