Paris in Spring by VAM Chamber Players
Presented by the Vancouver Chamber Music Society in collaboration with Anvil Theatre.
Embark on a musical journey that traces the evolution and beauty of French masterpieces from Romanticism to the dawning of the modern era with the Vancouver Chamber Music Society. Join us as we transition into spring with these turn-of-the-season compositions.
Our journey begins with the pristine lines and classical elegance of Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 1. Written amidst the emotional excess of 19th Century Romanticism, the simplicity of Fauré’s quartet is refreshing and forward-looking while maintaining the traditional clarity, poetry and restraint of the French tradition.
Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, composed when he was just 31, offers a glimpse into the emerging style characterized by rich colours, fleeting moods, and liberated form. This timeless quartet reflects Debussy’s departure from traditional rules, guided by the principles of sheer beauty.
Explore this monumental shift in musical history with instructors from the esteemed Vancouver Academy of Music, renowned for setting the standard in music education for over half a century.
Program:
Piano Quartet No.1, Op.15 – Gabriel Fauré
String Quartet in G minor, Op.10 – Claude Debussy
