Episode One: Imaginary Creature Collages & Colour Mixing

#nwsummerartclub @nwartservices (Twitter & Facebook)

In this video we show kids the basics of colour mixing by describing primary colours and secondary colours as well as warm and cool colours. Then using magazine images we create a fantastic surreal creature collage.

We don’t make an official colour wheel in this video but if you would like to make one download, print and paint.

Art Materials Required for this Video:

-Paints (whatever you’ve got, some kind of watercolours or tempera paint work best) you will need a red, yellow and a blue
-Brushes (whatever you’ve got)
-4-5 sheets of thicker white paper (watercolour paper works but thicker Bristol paper or cardstock will work fine)
-Palette (a white plate, white plastic lid, white foam egg carton all could work well here)
-A few old magazines to cut up
-Scissors
-Glue stick
-Sharpie marker (or some kind of permanent pen/marker) or pencil

Episode TWO: COLLagraph printmaking

#nwsummerartclub @nwartservices (Twitter & Facebook)

Learn how to make collagraph prints using a printmaking brayer and inks (or acrylic paint and a brush), tissue papers and textural odds-and-ends from around the house. Create a print that has lots of interest and depth because of its many layers. Learn about transparency and opacity as well as how to traditionally edition your artwork.

Art Materials Required for this Video:

-Water-soluble printmaking ink (Speedball ink works well and comes in small tubes)
