2021 Coastal Dance Festival

Presented by the Dancers of Damelahamid in partnership with Anvil Centre

The Coastal Dance Festival (CDF) is produced by the Dancers of Damelahamid in partnership with the Anvil Centre. It is a celebration of the songs and dances of the Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast of North America. This year’s newly envisioned festival will be a virtual presentation of indigenous song, dance, stories, and language where videos will be posted online from March 12 – 18. The theme of the 2021 CDF is resiliency; during these difficult times we uphold each other by witnessing, sharing, and supporting one another as we find new ways to continue our cultural practices, just like our ancestors before us.

This year’s artists are:
Chinook Song Catchers, Dakhká Khwáan, Dancers of Damelahamid, Git Hayetsk, Git Hoan, Spakwus Slolem, Yisya’winuxw and youth artists Casey James and Matoska & Nahpeyo Baker-Peters.

The festival takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Tsleil-Waututh, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), q̓ʷainƛ̓ən (Kwantlen), and qəyqəyt (Qayqayt) peoples. Some of our artists will be joining virtually from their home communities and territories.

We thank our sponsors the Canada Council for the Arts, the BC Arts Council, Canadian Heritage, and the Vancouver Foundation.
